Sober living homes provide a stable and supportive environment for people in early recovery. These homes typically house several residents who are all working towards similar goals of sobriety and independence. Residents are expected to follow specific rules and guidelines, such as abstaining from drug and alcohol use, attending group meetings, and participating in regular chores. Sober living homes provide structure and support that can be vital in early recovery when people are working to establish new sober routines.

We sat down with Kimberly a few days shy of her graduation from Women’s Hope, our recovery program for women with substance use disorder and moderate to severe mental health issues. A year ago, she never would have thought she’d be sober now, let alone alive, to tell her story. Fitness therapy is a part of the holistic approach and comprehensive care provided in substance abuse treatment. Fitness therapy in substance abuse treatment includes activities like swimming or jogging that promote movement and improve the general level of fitness of the individual. It does not involve the vigorous exercise regimes used in fitness programs.

The City of Boston is installing opioid overdose reversal kits in municipal buildings, thanks to a $30,000 donation. EMS also recently put in place a program that leaves naloxone behind at the scene of an overdose for bystanders or those that refuse transport. The sober house in mattapan Boston Fire Department instituted a pilot alternate response program, Delta 21. The program helped combat the opioid crisis in the Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue area. The goal is to create a comprehensive, long-term recovery campus on Long Island.
